The North Carolina Business and Professional Women's Foundation, Inc. offers four types of scholarships.
Applicants must be citizens of the United States and should follow instructions in the scholarship application. The Scholarship Committee advises applicants of their decision on or before June 5th. Recipients will be invited to attend the BPW/NC Foundation Luncheon at State Convention.
Elsie G. Riddick Scholarship
Scholarship for the study of business or a professional career
The Elsie G. Riddick Scholarship is named for one of the first BPW/NC Presidents.
It was a loan fund established in 1925 to help women obtain an education in preparation for a business or professional career.
Since 1972, it has been administered as a scholarship fund.
Ruth Moss Easterling Scholarship
Scholarship for the study of law to include legal secretary, public administrator or political science
Established in 1995, the Ruth Moss Easterling Scholarship was named for Ruth, BPW/NC Federation 1964-1965 State President, and 1970-1971 National President.
First elected to the North Carolina Legislature in 1976, the Honorable Ruth Moss Easterling served in the North Carolina House of Representatives for thirteen terms, retiring in 2002 at the age of ninety-two.
She was a staunch advocate for women’s rights and was instrumental in establishing the NC Commission on the Status of Women.
Joyce V. Lawrence Scholarship
Scholarship for study related to the field of education
The Joyce V. Lawrence Scholarship was named for the BPW/NC Federation 1986-1987 State President.
Dr. Lawrence was Dean of the Appalachian State University’s Cratis D. Williams Graduate School from 1980-1996.
She served as Dean when few women occupied academic administrative positions. Well-known statewide and nationally as one of the pioneers in graduate education, she spent a lifetime promoting scholarships and research.
BPW/NC Foundation Scholarships
The BPW/NC Foundation Scholarship was created in 1996 by the BPW/NC Foundation Board of Directors. The BPW/NC Foundation will award scholarships in the amount of up to $1,500 each. These scholarships are available in any field of study. Graduate students are also eligible.
